Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), a major global provider of hyperscale and large enterprise data centre solutions, has announced the expansion of its presence in India. Colt DCS has plans to develop a new data center in Chennai, in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The company has acquired a new 10-acre plot in the fast-growing digital hub of Ambattur, where it plans to deliver a hyperscale data centre by 2027.
The new site is set to deliver a minimum of 70 MW of IT capacity, and will mark Colt DCS’s 18th data centre globally, providing the infrastructure capacity for the rapid digitalisation of industry, mass cloud adoption and emerging technology such as AI. In a press release, the company said, “Colt DCS is working with local contractors and supply chains to reduce the environmental impact of the scope 3 emissions and stimulate the economy of the surrounding area.”
Chennai is India’s second largest data center market after Mumbai, which is home to Colt DCS’s only other data center in India. Chenna is also the fifth largest city by GDP and population, aims to become a USD 1 Trillion economy by 2030. It also has excellent subsea cable network connectivity, making it a much sought-after data center destination in the region. Moreover, the state government of Tamil Nadu has also been proactive in attracting data centers to Chennai by developing a comprehensive Data Center Policy.

We expect the demand for data centres to continue to grow exponentially with the increased digitisation, adoption of AI and cloud services in India.”
