Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has partnered with GMA Network, the Philippine’s leading broadcast company, and its subsidiary, GMA New Media Inc. (NMI), to launch a public service announcement (PSA) campaign aimed at raising public awareness on cybersecurity to help prevent people from falling into cyber scams.
BPI, GMA, and GMA NMI collaborated to make dramatized PSAs about cybersecurity that demonstrate how fraudsters utilize typical social engineering techniques to defraud individuals of their money and what information should never be disclosed to anyone in order to avoid being scammed.
According to Catherine Santamaria, chief customer and marketing officer of BPI, they want to lessen cybercrime and safeguard against illegal use of their technology, networks, and systems.
Moreover, for Jonathan John Paz, enterprise information security officer and data protection officer of BPI, they hope to change the behavior of banking clients so that they become more vigilant against cyber scams and will never share any confidential information.
Meanwhile, according to Angela Javier Cruz, vice president and head of corporate affairs and communications of GMA, they see the need to conduct customer education campaigns against online scams and social engineering schemes such as phishing, smishing and vishing.
Dennis Augusto Caharian, president and chief operating officer of GMA NMI, said they can arm individuals with ways to protect themselves from cyberthreats and stay safe online and, in the long run, help create a culture of cybersecurity awareness that is essential in the digital age — it all starts with education.
