BAM Digital Realty has announced the appointment of C B Velayuthan as chief executive officer, in a joint venture between Brookfield Infrastructure and Digital Realty.
The move comes as Velayuthan leaves his role at Equinix’s Global Managing Director of Strategic Alliances and starts as BAM Digital Realty’s CEO. In previous roles, he has also been responsible for leading global sales for international telecommunications company Nokia, generating a partner business unit and developing telecommunications networks across India.
Leading the team in India, Velayuthan will oversee the digital infrastructure requirements of the ever-growing and fast-paced market to become a full product spectrum digital infrastructure provider. In a recent statement, the new chief executive officer expressed their ultimate goal in the role; to support and improve the interconnectivity services called for by cloud service providers and hyperscalers as well as international enterprise customers.
Earlier this year, Reliance Industries announced that they would join the entity as an equal partner, consequently forming a three-way joint venture, which is awaiting regulatory approval. If this merger is successful, the new venture will operate as Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Jio and Digital Realty Company.
In Chennai, BAM Digital Realty’s first 20 mW Greenfield data center will start operations at a 100 mW campus at the end of 2023. As well as this, the venture announced the acquisition of a second data center to be built in on 2.15 acres in Chandivali in Mumbai.
