AWS Invests $12 Billion in Singapore’s Digital Future

AWS is set to invest $12 billion in Singapore’s digital infrastructure over the next four years, focusing on cloud computing and AI projects. The funds will support expanding operations across the Asia-Pacific region, covering salaries, equipment, construction, and data center operations.

With this investment, AWS’s total commitment to Singapore rises to $23.5 billion, reflecting its dedication to the Asia-Pacific region’s expansion. AWS Country Manager Priscilla Chong highlights that the funds will support various operational aspects, including salaries, equipment procurement, and data center operations. Additionally, the investment will cater to the growing demand for generative AI tools.

AWS’s investment is projected to contribute around $23.7 billion to Singapore’s GDP and create over 12,300 jobs by 2028, both within AWS and across businesses utilizing its cloud services. Moreover, AWS’s services have been instrumental in supporting approximately 4,800 full-time positions annually in local businesses between 2010 and 2023, fostering a thriving ecosystem of suppliers and service providers.

Despite global economic challenges, AWS’s investment in Singapore underscores its commitment to supporting the nation’s digital transformation agenda. In partnership with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), AWS is launching the AWS AI Spring program. This initiative aims to bolster AI adoption among organizations through workshops and consulting services, supported by funding and expertise.

AWS’s initiatives extend beyond the business sector to education and healthcare, with plans to train thousands of individuals in AI skills and collaborate on innovative projects with local partners. Through these efforts, AWS seeks to foster a thriving AI ecosystem in Singapore and contribute to its continued growth in the digital economy.
