Outstanding Data Center Projects

Sponsored by: W.Media

Excellence in Safety, Security, Availability, Scaling and Efficiency are hallmarks of a world class data center operations team.

This category is open to any data center teams who recently (<18 months) established or transformed their operations team to achieve the highest level of operational excellence, drive best practices and/or benchmarking of operations between regions to ensure world class operations in all countries or multiple data center sites.

Sponsored by: W.Media

Probably one of the least recognised teams in a data center establishment, a high performing service and maintenance team offers data center owners and operators a peace of mind. It is not unusual for the service and maintenance team to be the recipient of night-time calls, long hours and the feeling of never making any progress. Every service engineering, preventive and corrective maintenance member faces the same daily pressures around uptime, production, budget, skills, people and compliance.

This category is open to Service Providers or Data Center Owners who wish to recognise their supporting teams in a recent (<18 months) project or incident.

What makes a large facility hyperscale is not just its size, but also how its design enables its tenants or users to make optimum use of its resources within that size. Innovation includes maximising cooling and power efficiency, modular electrical power distribution, power availability, IT load balancing and last but not least, facility automation that includes control and monitoring.

This category is open to data center owners or operators with a recent (<18 months) green or brown field project.

Data center equipment and servers produce a lot of heat, which means a large portion of expenditures come from cooling. IT equipment must remain at a safe temperature, which calls for proper ventilation and cooling in the data center. Power consumption can be lessened by optimizing or innovating not just the cooling operations, but also the technology adoption.

This category is open to any recent (<18 months) data center project that resulted in significant benefits to the data center owner where the energy efficiency of the facilities concerned.

Sustainable design is about building the future, not just a structure. Sustainability is as much about process as it is about product. Seeing sustainable design as a process empowers “green” designers and constructors to better evaluate and anticipate the environmental, economical and social impacts and costs. Many data centers have made a commitment to sustainable energy solutions by turning to sources of renewable power.

This category is open to any recent (<18 months) project involving the design and build of a new data center anywhere in the region.

Building a successful IXP is not just a technical engineering job – time and effort needs to be invested in developing trust, common understanding and mutual agreements in the local community. This spurs innovation and creates business opportunities – it encourages local people to produce more relevant local content and applications.

This category is open to any recent (<18 months) project involving the expansion or innovation of connectivity anywhere in the region.

Outstanding IT & Cloud Projects

This category is open to any project relevant to a recent (<18 months) multi cloud management strategy either for their organisation or external customers that result in a significant business benefit.
