atNorth, a Nordic data center colocation company, has confirmed plans to develop a 300 MW data center at Hamre Industrial Park in Långsele, Sollefteå. The facility will be built on a 50-hectare site known as Hamre 1, and is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2028.
According to a press release, the Hamre industrial park is fully zoned and prepared for development, enabling an accelerated construction timeline. The company will pursue heat reuse partnerships to capture and redirect excess heat generated by the facility from AI driven and high-performance computing workloads, which require large-scale, high-density infrastructure delivered on compressed schedules.
Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO, atNorth, said, “We face a critical point in time right now, where we must balance unprecedented growth in high density workloads with an increasingly urgent need for sustainable, scalable digital infrastructure.”
Emelie Wrede, Mayor and Chair, Sollefteå Municipality, said, “This establishment confirms that Sollefteå offers the right conditions for large-scale, future-oriented industry. The development will strengthen the local economy, create skilled employment opportunities, and further position our municipality as an attractive destination for sustainable digital infrastructure.”
The site was selected for its grid capacity, access to renewable energy and transport links. The campus will follow atNorth’s modular design approach, allowing phased deployment and flexibility for both built-to-suit projects and large-scale colocation customers running data-intensive workloads.
The Sollefteå development is part of atNorth’s Nordic expansion strategy, following recent site expansions in Iceland, plans for an additional Stockholm data center, new colocation partnerships with Nokia, Crusoe and 6G AI Sweden AB, and a heat reuse agreement with Denmark-based Vesforbrænding.
