Anthropic, an American artificial intelligence safety and research company, has reportedly entered into a US$ 45 billion deal with Nscale, a UK-based AI infrastructure company, to rent over 400 MW of AI cloud computing capacity.
Bloomberg was the first to report the development, even though neither Anthropic, nor Nscale have made any formal announcement yet. Meanwhile, citing confidential sources, CNBC reported that as per the deal, Anthropic will rent around 460 MW of compute capacity at Nscale’s West Virginia data center facility which is expected to go live in 2027.
Founded in 2021, by former OpenAI executives including siblings Dario Amodei (CEO) and Daniela Amodei (President), Anthropic has bold AI ambitions, and is rapidly scaling its compute infrastructure. This involves billion dollar deals with cloud providers and chip makers.
Anthropic got its first big investment from Google worth US$ 500 million in 2023. Then in April 2026, it signed a new agreement with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity that we expect to come online starting in 2027.
In November 2025, it announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA, as per the terms of which, Anthropic would scale its Claude AI model on Microsoft Azure, powered by NVIDIA. Anthropic also committed to purchase US$ 30 billion of Azure compute capacity, and to contract additional compute capacity up to one gigawatt. At the same time, NVIDIA and Microsoft also committed to invest up to US$ 10 billion and up to US$ 5 billion respectively, in Anthropic.
In July 2026, it announced a strategic partnership with AMD to deploy up to 2 GW of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in AMD Helios rack-scale solutions, with deployment of the first GW beginning in the first half of 2027. AMD has committed to make a strategic equity investment of up to US$ 5 billion in Anthropic in the future. More recently, in early August, Anthropic signed a six-year cloud compute deal worth US$ 10 billion with AI cloud startup Volta.
It is also noteworthy that in June this year, Anthropic confidentially submitted a draft registration statement on Form S-1 to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering (IPO). The Anthropic IPO is one of the most anticipated IPOs of 2026, even though no official timeline has been announced.
