Amazon Web Services Unveils European Sovereign Cloud

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has revealed plans to introduce the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, an independent cloud platform tailored for Europe. This initiative aims to assist public sector clients and those in tightly regulated industries in adhering to rigorous regulatory guidelines related to data residency and operational protocols.

Situated and operated within Europe, the AWS European Sovereign Cloud will be distinct both physically and conceptually from existing AWS Regions. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will initiate its services with the launch of its inaugural AWS Region in Germany and will be accessible to all European clients.

It guarantees the same level of security, availability, and performance as the current AWS Regions, offering customers an expanded array of options to fulfill their requirements for data residency, operational independence, and resilience.

The European Union has been at the forefront of privacy and security regulations, with its privacy watchdog initiating an investigation last year into the utilization of cloud-based services in the public sector, ensuring compliance with privacy safeguards.

In today’s landscape, businesses and governmental clients are increasingly turning to big tech companies’ data centers through public cloud services instead of constructing their own infrastructure.
