Amazon Web Services (AWS) is set to broaden its presence in the ASEAN region with the upcoming launch of its new AWS Region in Malaysia, slated to go live in 2024.
This development aligns with the Malaysian government’s Madani Economy Framework, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the living standards of Malaysians by 2030.
The introduction of the AWS Region in Malaysia aims to play a pivotal role in advancing the nation’s digitalization goals, meeting the surging demand for cloud services, and fostering innovation not only within Malaysia but also across Southeast Asia.
This infrastructure will serve as a hub for collaboration, experimentation, and growth, catering to startups, small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), enterprises, and public sector organizations.
These entities will have access to cutting-edge technologies, including generative artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT), among others.
Additionally, the new AWS Region in Malaysia will enable customers to securely store their data within the country, fulfilling data residency preferences, reducing latency, and meeting the cloud service demands across Southeast Asia.
To enhance support for Malaysia’s digitization initiatives, AWS also inaugurated its latest office in Kuala Lumpur on June 1, 2023. Spanning an expansive 32,000 square feet, this facility has been thoughtfully designed to promote agile work, lifelong learning, and collaboration.
This office serves as a strategic innovation hub, strengthening relationships with customers and partners. It will host various knowledge-sharing workshops and experience-driven sessions.
This new office reaffirms AWS’s ongoing commitment to Malaysia, building on the foundation laid since the commencement of local operations in the country in 2016.
In March, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that AWS invested worth RM25.5 billion (about USD5.7 billion) over 15 years for a new infrastructure “region” in Malaysia. The investment aims to drive the digital transformation and digital trust in the country.
