Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence business of the wider Alibaba Group, has announced the official launch of its first cloud region in Mexico. With this launch, Alibaba Cloud’s global infrastructure network now comprises 87 availability zones across 29 regions.
According to a press release, the Mexico Region offers a comprehensive suite of cloud products, including elastic computing, storage, networking, container and security services, all compliant with ISO and CSA certifications. Tailored to meet the demands of Mexico’s e-commerce, logistics, fintech, and telecom sectors, the cloud region ensures low latency and enhanced data sovereignty in delivering cloud services.
“The launch of our Mexico Region underscores our long-term commitment to serving this vibrant market,” said Selina Yuan, President of International Business, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “We are not only bringing world-class cloud technology to support local businesses, but also building an inclusive and thriving ecosystem in Mexico together with our local partners, developers and customers to foster innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth across Latin America.”
“Mexico City is the technological, financial, economic, investment and innovation engine in the world, and we are setting a benchmark in the digitalization process. With the arrival of Alibaba Cloud, we are getting closer to the consolidation of becoming a cutting-edge digital metropolis, which increasingly provides more advanced tools for startups, entrepreneurs and companies in strategic sectors,” said Manola Zabalza, Secretary of Economic Development of the Government of Mexico City.
Alibaba Cloud first established its customer service center in Mexico City to support customers in the region in 2022. The new infrastructure aims to empower businesses, startups, developers, and organizations in Latin America with secure, resilient and scalable cloud services, unlocking more growth and innovation opportunities while strengthening Mexico’s position as a leading regional tech hub.
As part of its long-term commitment to the local Mexico market, Alibaba Cloud is planning to launch a series of local supporting programs to advance Mexico’s digital ecosystem. These initiatives include talent development by collaborating with local universities and institutions to equip the next generation with essential cloud and AI skills, promoting technology inclusion in the country; local SME and developer support programs, initiatives to help small and medium enterprises adopt cloud technologies to streamline operations and spark innovation; and community engagement activities such as hackathons, technology workshops, and innovation challenges to inspire students and startups to leverage cloud and AI tools to address real-world problems.
