Alibaba Cloud, a global provider of artificial intelligence infrastructure and the intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, announced the launch of its first public cloud region in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with two new data centers available to meet demand for cloud and AI services in Europe.

Alibaba Cloud said in a press release that the new region offers a comprehensive suite of cloud computing products including elastic computing, storage, container, networking, big data, security, database, and cloud-native services. The company also plans to bring a suite of agentic AI services to the region.

“The Netherlands is one of Europe’s most vibrant digital economies, and our first region here is a direct response to the strong demand we see from local businesses building and scaling with AI. By bringing our advanced AI and cloud capabilities to Amsterdam, we are giving customers the in-region infrastructure, performance and data residency they need to innovate faster, scale securely and operate with greater efficiency in the AI era,” said Feifei Li, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence President of International Business and Chief Technology Officer.

In August, Alibaba Cloud launched its first cloud region in Brazil. Like the Netherlands, the Brazil region launched with a suite of products, and agentic AI services are in the offing. The launch of these cloud regions is part of Alibaba’s US$ 53 billion investment in AI and cloud infrastructure globally.

The Netherlands is the fourth Alibaba Cloud region to come online in Europe joining Frankfurt in Germany, London in the UK and Paris in France. The launch grows the company’s availability zones to 109 across 32 regions worldwide. Alibaba Cloud also plans to launch its first cloud region in Finland, while the company looks to expand its data center footprint in Germany and France over the next 12 months.

According to MarketsandMarkets, the cloud computing market in the Netherlands is expected to grow from a value of US$ 14.6 billion in 2025 to US$ 27.5 billion by 2030. This growth is being fueled by increasing demand for data analytics, AI integration, and hybrid cloud solutions. The country’s robust data center ecosystem and compliance with European data protection standards position it as a critical cloud services hub.
