AirTrunk Expands HyperScale Data Center Network in Japan with Osaka Launch

AirTrunk is making significant strides in expanding its hyperscale data center network in Japan, unveiling its inaugural data center project in Osaka. Named AirTrunk OSK1 (OSK1), this facility is poised for substantial growth, boasting scalability of over 20 megawatts (MW).

Strategically situated in west Osaka, OSK1 is strategically positioned to enhance regional diversity, establishing a crucial presence in a major availability zone. This new addition, located alongside AirTrunk’s existing data centers in east and west Tokyo, elevates the company’s total capacity in Japan to 430MW.

AirTrunk’s Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Robin Khuda, highlighted the driving forces behind this expansion, citing a surge in artificial intelligence applications and increased enterprise cloud adoption. These factors are fueling a significant demand for robust digital infrastructure in key Japanese markets.

The Japan data center market is forecasted to experience steady growth at a CAGR of 5.93% during the 2022-2028 period. The key reasons for the projected boom is due to Japan’s status as an economic powerhouse in the APAC region and a hub for global connectivity.

This milestone marks AirTrunk’s 11th data center venture in the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region, bolstering its presence in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. Collectively, this expansive platform will deliver an impressive capacity of more than 1.4 gigawatts (GW) across the region.

This announcement closely follows AirTrunk’s recent revelations about its new developments, including HKG2, the company’s second data center in Hong Kong, and JHB1, its inaugural venture in Malaysia.
