AirTrunk, an Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) hyperscale data centre provider, has broken ground in Tokyo for its latest data center. The first phase will be a 40 MW facility that will eventually be part of a 300 MW hyperscale campus TOK1.

The carrier neutral facility is set on 13ha of land, strategically located in Inzai’s data center hub. The facility will have 80,000m2 of data hall area, 9,600m2 of office and storage area and 102 data halls.

In a press release, AirTrunk said that a traditional jichinsai Shinto groundbreaking ceremony was held to bless the land and ensure safe, successful construction. The ceremony was attended by AirTrunk’s Country Head, Japan, Nori Matsushita and Chief Development Officer Paul Slaven alongside key partners in construction, design, and power infrastructure.

This new development is AirTrunk’s third facility in Japan after TOK2 in Western Tokyo and OSK1 in Osaka. AirTrunk aims to power the future of cloud and artificial intelligence in Japan, bringing over 430 MW of total capacity.
