Bharti Airtel recently announced its intention to secure 23,000 MWh of renewable energy for its Nxtra data center subsidiary by the end of the fiscal year 2023-2024, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint.
To achieve this, Airtel will invest in renewable energy projects by Continuum Green India Pvt. Ltd. and Vibrant Energy Holdings Pte. Ltd., enabling the power supply to six of Nxtra’s Edge data center facilities.
Airtel’s approach involves acquiring renewable energy through an open access route, which includes taking stakes in Continuum Green’s project company. This company will provide eco-friendly power generated from solar and wind projects to Nxtra’s Edge data centers in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, Airtel has forged a similar agreement with Vibrant Energy’s project company to supply solar power to its Edge data center in Vijayawada. These initiatives will increase the total contracted renewable energy capacity for Nxtra data centers to over 274,000 MWh.
