IT News has reported that Amazon Web Services is hoping to build another $300 million data centre in Sydney’s west. The reports indicate a data centre of two stories supporting upward of 30 MW of IT equipment with projected build and fit out of around two years which AWS had hoped to begin in early 2023. The two floors are reported as offering just over 9000 square metres of IT space and that roll-out is likely to be staged to fit customer demand.
The AWS plans indicate the continuing strong demand growth in the Sydney market. Over the past year, CDC announced their intention to expand their Eastern Creek data center campus, upgrades have been completed to the Macquarie Data Centre (now Macquarie Technology Group) campus, the opening of NEXTDC’s largest data center at Artarmon, the opening of Equinix xScale in Western Sydney all of which together with other investments confirm Sydney’s status not only as the key data center hub in Oceania but also as a key location in the fast-expanding Asia Pacific region.
