Eurofiber, a European digital infrastructure provider, is launching Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) connectivity services between data centers in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart. The company will primarily use the infrastructure of NGN Fiber Network, in which it holds a stake, to provide connections within and between the six cities.
According to a press release, the services are designed to support data-intensive operations, including cloud computing, AI applications, data replication, backup and business continuity across multiple locations. WDM technology allows multiple data signals to be transmitted over a single optical fiber, enabling high-capacity connections.
Arian de Korte, International Program Director, Eurofiber, said, “In Germany, enterprises, cloud service providers and international network providers are increasingly using regional data centers to bring data and applications closer to their operations and users, maintain greater control over their data and strengthen their digital resilience. This supports their digital sovereignty and increases the need for reliable interconnection between these facilities.”
Andrea Kraus, CCO, Eurofiber Group, said, “For customers, the value of regional data centers depends increasingly on how well those locations are connected. They need the flexibility to scale capacity, move data quickly and build resilience across their digital infrastructure. By expanding our data center connectivity services in Germany, we give organizations a stronger foundation for cloud, AI and other data-intensive applications.”
Demand for interconnection between regional data centers is increasing as businesses and service providers seek to keep data closer to their operations and users. Eurofiber operates fiber networks in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and Luxembourg and the new German services will be marketed under the Eurofiber brand.
