Singapore-headquartered Bridge Data Centres (BDC) is in discussions with banks to more than double the size of an existing loan to about US $6.6 billion, from the original US$2.8 billion that it secured last year for its Malaysian operations. A previous effort sought to increase the original loan to US$ 5 billion,  Bloomberg reported yesterday citing unidentified sources who are familiar with the matter. The expanded amount could be launched into the syndicated loan market as early as November, the sources added.

Meanwhile, plans for a US$ 6 billion loan for its Thai operations were postponed due to a nationwide pause on data center construction pending new regulations that were expected to address a myriad of legal loopholes. In March, w.media reported about the potential 12-month Thai loan which if finalised, would be one of the largest data center loans in Asia, second only to DayOne’s US$ 7 billion loan.

BDC, which is owned by Bain Capital, declined to comment, as per Bloomberg report. Much of the data center investment over the next five years is expected to be financed through debt, according to a ratings agency.
