Digital Realty, a cloud- and carrier-neutral data center platform provider, plans to develop a cable landing station (CLS) at its LAX12 data center in Los Angeles in partnership with Assured Communications, a company focused on subsea infrastructure design and delivery.
According to a press release, the project is intended to connect subsea cable systems more closely with terrestrial networks at Digital Realty’s Los Angeles campus. The planned station will provide infrastructure for landing and powering subsea cables and allow operators to connect with networks, cloud providers and carriers through Digital Realty’s facilities.
Andy Power, President and CEO, Digital Realty, said, “This development reflects our continued focus on expanding Digital Realty’s role in supporting global connectivity, by bringing together subsea landing infrastructure with our existing interconnection and data center platform, we are strengthening the intercontinental connectivity available across our Los Angeles campus and providing our customers with a more seamless and scalable environment for connecting across regions.”
Joel Ogren, Founder and CEO, Assured Communications, said, “Assured Communications is supporting the design, engineering and construction of the project, drawing on its experience in subsea cable systems and landing infrastructure development, to help bring a new subsea cable landing station to Los Angeles to further strengthen connectivity between Asia Pacific and North America.”
Assured Communications is providing design, engineering and construction support for the project. The CLS is in development and is expected to begin supporting cables in 2028. Once operational, it will provide infrastructure for subsea cables landing in Los Angeles and additional connectivity routes between Asia Pacific and North America.
