A US-based multinational technology company has signed an agreement recently with a Malaysian consortium for a proposed 680MW solar-plus-storage project to power its data center, according to the companies’ joint press release.
The consortium, comprising Gamuda Bhd, SD Guthrie Bhd and Gentari Sdn Bhd have signed a Bilateral Energy Supply Contract (BESC) term sheet through their joint venture firm, G3nerasi Kinta Sdn Bhd, with the US firm which is unnamed.
G3nerasi Kinta Sdn Bhd is a joint venture company between Guthrie’s wholly owned subsidiary, SD Guthrie Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd, with Gamuda Energy Sdn Bhd and Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd.
The BESC project is expected to be commercially operational in 2029 and will supply renewable power to the US firm’s data center under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).
The project, which includes a four-hour battery energy storage system, will run for 21 years, and may generate more than RM10 billion in gross revenue over the offtake period, according to Gamuda. It added that funding could come from a combination of project financing and equity contributions from the partners based on their respective stakes.
The BESC is one of the milestones achieved by the partnership between SD Guthrie and Gamuda Berhad signed in August 2025, to develop, own and operate up to 1.2 GW of solar power assets. Gamuda has also in the same month, signed an agreement with Gentari, through Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, to deliver 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity.
SD Guthrie is the world’s largest palm oil producer by acreage, Gentari is the renewable energy arm of national oil and gas company PETRONAS, while Gamuda is an infrastructure conglomerate.
