Samsung, a South Korean multinational manufacturing conglomerate, has committed US$ 1 billion to Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure company formed by KKR, as the company seeks to expand its capacity to develop data centers, power, connectivity and other infrastructure for hyperscale customers.

According to a press release, the investment will come through Samsung’s long-duration capital fund and adds to more than US$ 10 billion committed to Helix when the strategy was launched by founding investors including KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and Vistra. The additional capital will support investments in infrastructure needed to meet rising demand for AI computing.

“Samsung’s commitment is a strong vote of confidence in Helix’s strategy and further deepens the long-term capital base we’ve built to meet the scale of AI infrastructure demand,” said Adam Selipsky, CEO and Co-Founder, Helix. “As one of the world’s leading technology companies, Samsung brings unique capabilities that we expect will benefit Helix and its customers, and we look forward to working together to accelerate the deployment of next-generation digital infrastructure for hyperscalers around the world.”

Helix said it plans to explore using Samsung’s capabilities in areas including advanced technology, construction, energy storage and cooling. NVIDIA is providing expertise in full-stack technology and AI infrastructure, while Vistra is involved in power.

The company was established to invest in and manage infrastructure supporting AI development in North America and other markets. Its focus includes data centers, power and connectivity as demand from hyperscalers grows.

KKR said it has invested more than US$ 75 billion globally across digital infrastructure and power. The firm has operated in South Korea since 2009 and has invested about US$ 9 billion in the country across infrastructure, private equity, real estate and credit.
