South African AI neocloud provider Stratos Lab, together with data center operator Digital Parks Africa and ECOBLOX, has announced the launch of an exascale AI cloud, said to be the most powerful in Africa with a peak performance of 7.2 EFLOPS.
This performance is made possible through more than 50 NVIDIA B300 HGX GPU servers containing over 400 GPUs. The AI cloud will give African businesses the ability to deploy AI solutions while taking advantage of the lower latency and reduced operational costs of locally hosted infrastructure. As outlined in a press release, the launch of the AI cloud positions South Africa as the continent’s primary hub for sovereign AI compute.

By integrating our specialized GPUaaS orchestration and managed PaaS capabilities with world-class modular AI infrastructure, we are giving African enterprises and developers the raw, high-performance compute power needed to build world-class AI models locally,” said Chris Mostert, Stratos Lab Chief Executive Officer.

Digital Parks Africa operates two data centers in South Africa, its flagship facility in Samrand and another in Centurion. The AI cloud will reportedly be deployed at the firm’s Centurion facility, where ECOBLOX is responsible for design, procurement, installation, and optimization of the equipment. Once that process is complete, Stratos Lab will serve as operator for the environment.

South Africa’s AI factory market, while still nascent, is growing quickly. In October 2025, South African technology group Altron launched the first AI factory in the country within an AI-ready data center operated by Teraco, a Digital Realty company. In March 2026, Cassava Technologies announced the launch of its first South African AI factory, noting that it intends to expand these factories into Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco.
The South African AI market will reach a value of US$ 1.33 billion by the end of 2026 according to research from MarketsandMarkets. By 2031, it will be worth US$ 6.76 billion as demand for machine learning, natural language processing, and automation increases across key sectors including financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing. While there is much potential for growth, skill gaps, data privacy and infrastructure disparities are key challenges for expansion.
