London-headquartered owner and operator of hyperscale data centers Global Switch Holdings Limited has announced its debut in Thailand as part of its Southeast Asian expansion plan. In a Linkedin post last week, the firm said its Bangkok expansion is a major milestone in its Asia-Pacfic growth journey.
Thailand was chosen due to its strong access to subsea cable networks, connectivity between key Asian markets, a growing digital infrastructure ecosystem, a strategic location at the heart of Southeast Asia, and a fast-growing data center market, it added. Details were scarce beyond that.
In its website, Global Switch also said it plans to enter Malaysia soon with a facility in Kulai, Johor expected to be ready for service in 2028.
Johor was picked because it is located within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, enabling low-latency connectivity into Singapore’s major business and cloud ecosystem, as well as benefiting from existing connectivity established by the firm’s two data centers in Singapore.
Apart from Singapore, the Euro-centric firm also has a data center in Hong Kong. It plans to expand further in Southeast Asia due to greater land availability, competitive cost structures and strong government backing, it further said.
In Europe, Global Switch has footprint across Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Madrid and Paris.
