KIO Data Centers, a Latin American digital infrastructure and technology services company, has announced several new projects across Mexico following the completion of phases two and three of its Tier III, 12 MW QRO2 data center at the Querétaro Mega Campus.

The completion of phases two and three of QRO2 brings total investment in the project to US$ 170 million, according a press release. KIO Data Centers also announced that it will invest more than US$ 200 million in the development of new projects in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Querétaro to meet the demand for cloud computing, AI, and other mission-critical applications in the country.

“As a Mexican company, KIO Data Centers today competes with some of the world’s leading digital infrastructure operators, developing technological capabilities in Mexico for all of Latin America. We are committed to continuing to invest in strengthening the technological capabilities Mexico needs to seize the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence and the digital economy,” said Octavio Camarena, KIO Data Centers Chief Executive Officer.

Looking further ahead, KIO announced a potential investment of up to US$ 1.3 billion through 2030 to develop QRO3, a 100 MW project that could become the firm’s largest data center. During that development, should it come to fruition, the company expects to create more than 8,100 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to Mexico’s economic development.

“We anticipate significant growth in everything related to information, the data economy, artificial intelligence, data centers, data center equipment, and the entire ecosystem surrounding artificial intelligence. This will be an important new driver of economic growth, and Mexico will be part of it, as will all of North America, alongside the United States and Canada,” said Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón.

The city of Querétaro is a major hub for data center investments. As CBRE outlined in its latest Global Data Center Trends 2026, which w.media covered in July, Querétaro saw the strongest growth in the Latin America region. Large hyperscale and AI deployments have pushed installed inventory up 450.2 percent to 298.2 MW. Grid capacity in the city is a constraint, though KIO’s QRO3 plans suggest developers are pressing ahead with their projects regardless of that constraint.

Across Mexico, Arizton Advisory & Intelligence expects that the data center market will grow to a value of US$ 3.48 billion by 2031 as it becomes one of the region’s largest markets behind Brazil. The market’s growth is largely driven by the adoption of advanced technologies including AI, IoT, big data, and rising data traffic as 5G coverage becomes more prominent.
