Firebird, an AI cloud company, has launched an AI computing facility in Armenia, which is touted to be the largest in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, a Eurasian political and economic grouping spanning Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The Hrazdan facility will use technology and infrastructure provided by NVIDIA, Dell Technologies infrastructure, and was built in just over six months.
According to a press release, Firebird plans to deploy more than 70,000 NVIDIA Rubin and Blackwell GPUs and 300 MW of AI infrastructure capacity in Armenia by the end of 2027. The opening ceremony was attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev and David Allen, the U.S. charge d’affaires, a.i. in Armenia.
“AI will soon be pervasive and integrated into every application, every device, and every workflow,” said Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO, NVIDIA, via a video message, explaining the need to develop AI infrastructure in the region. “Like electricity, and the internet before it, AI will become a new kind of infrastructure.” He further said, “Every company and every country must build its own AI. No nation can outsource all of its intelligence.”
Firebird is pursuing an approximately 2 GW AI infrastructure roadmap that interconnects Armenia, Kazakhstan and other markets with support from NVIDIA. The Armenia AI factory will be powered by NVIDIA’s total AI factory platform including reference architecture, accelerated computing, networking and AI software, and be deployed on Dell PowerEdge servers.
Alexander Yesayan, Co-Founder, Firebird, said, “Our ambition for what we are building in the next 2 years or so is roughly 2 GW of capacity around the world. We’re very focused on merging into frontier markets.”
The facility is based on NVIDIA’s AI factory platform and uses Dell PowerEdge servers and the infrastructure will serve developers, startups, companies, universities and public institutions in Armenia. NVIDIA intends to invest in Firebird, following an investment by CoreWeave earlier this year and Firebird’s investments will support expansion of its infrastructure and operations. The early demand includes Perplexity, which is working with the company to access AI infrastructure for its AI agent platform and answer engine.
