Vantage Data Centers is planning to expand its footprint in Italy. It has announced a new MXP2 campus in the Greater Milan area. This second campus is part of a €350 million (US$ 407 million) company investment and designed to meet the increasing demand for high-performance, scalable digital infrastructure in the region.
In a press release Vantage Data Centers said that the new facility was located in Castelletto, about 15 kilometers from central Milan. These facilities will deliver a combined 32MW of critical IT capacity across approximately 10,000 square meters. The facility development is scheduled to become operational in Q1, 2026.
David Howson, EMEA president at Vantage Data Centers, explained the choice of location saying, “Milan’s extensive fiber network and position along major terrestrial backbones provide low-latency connectivity to key European hubs like Zurich, Frankfurt, and Munich, making it an ideal location for hyperscale growth driven by cloud and AI technologies.”
Alfonso Romano, vice president, site selection and acquisition, EMEA, Vantage Data Centers said, “Our investments not only enable digital transformation but also positively contribute to a growing economy, job creation, innovation and sustainable opportunities for local communities.”
The design for the MXP2 campus integrates seven types of nature-based solutions (NbS), such as permeable surfaces, rain gardens, and sustainable urban drainage to manage stormwater effectively. Combined with the existing MXP1 campus, Vantage’s Italian footprint will offer 96MW of IT capacity to support global technology companies.
Vantage’s investment in its multiple Italian campuses, including the initial MXP1 and the new MXP2, has been recognized by the Italian Government as nationally strategic infrastructure. Vantage plans to invest approximately €4 billion (US$ 4.30 billion) over the next eight years.
This is just the latest in a series of announcements of investments and data center deployments in Milan in recent weeks. Readers would recall that w.media had recently reported in an article that Echelon Data Centres and Starwood Capital Group have partnered to acquire a 37-acre site near Milan to build a data center campus with an investment of €3 billion (US$ 3.5 billion). Construction on the Milan project named LIN10 is set to commence immediately and expected to be fully operational in 18 to 24 months with a total electrical capacity of 250MVA, including 100MVA available immediately via an existing onsite substation.
