Sydney’s data center footprint continues to move West with a 160 MW data center campus including also a tape storage facility proposed for Wetherill Park. The proposal has been drawn up by Cundall Johnston and Partners who have revealed their plans for a site currently occupied by a 45,000 m2 distribution center. The project has been given the name of Project Blue Tongue.
The project is classified as a State Significant Development and is currently at the Exhibition stage which allows public access to relevant materials including the application document and the environmental impact statement. This stage closes on Monday 15th April.
The project webpage indicates a total site size of 105,400 m2, and a proposed gross floor area of around 25,000 m2. The site will include a substation of about 3,880 m2 in size. The two three-storey data center buildings will each have a capacity of 80 MW with 33 generators stationed in each building. The development will include also ancillary offices and amenities. The tape storage facility will be 466 m2 in size across two halls and it will have a power requirement of 850 kW.
The site is currently connected to NBN and Telstra fiber lines.
But it’s not all about specs and engineering. Reference is made in planning documents to a colour scheme inspired by blue tongue lizards, plant and equipment covered with metal mesh veils to create light and shadow effects, subtle daytime light displays and solar-powered LED lighting at night.
